Do you want to contribute to better health for all?
The postdoctoral position is placed in the Clinical Chemistry & Coagulation group at MMK with associate professor Jovan Antovic MD, PhD as a project leader. The research group consists of two basic research postdocs, two clinical postdocs, two PhD students and one biomedical scientist. The main focuses of the group are global hemostasis assays and hemostasis disorders-hemophilia, von Willebrand disease and thrombophilia. Read more:clinical-chemistry-and-blood-coagulation
The project associated with the postdoctoral position is related to the Von Willebrand disease (VWD), the most common inherited bleeding disorder with a population prevalence of 1% and symptomatic prevalence of 1 in 1000. It is caused by quantitative or qualitative abnormalities of von Willebrand factor (VWF). Despite the increasing knowledge on VWF and VWD, the diagnosis still remains difficult, particularly in milder cases of bleeding, because the disease presents with a wide spectrum of clinical phenotypes that overlap with normal subjects. Multifactorial nature of VWD clearly shows that there are undiscovered disease modifiers and physiological determinants that should be investigated. The purpose of the project is to define the physiological and proteomic landscape that underlies the complexity of clinical phenotypes, seen in patients with von Willebrand disease. One of the interesting physiological determinants are microparticles, a microvesicles with both anticoagulant and procoagulant abilities. One of the possible causes of the observed variation in the clinical phenotype of patients with von Willebrand disease could be the fluctuating structure and properties of the fibrin clot. The goals of the project are
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. We are interested in candidates with strong background in hemostasis and basic research. Applicants are required to have completed a PhD degree in a field related to the position such as molecular biology, biochemistry or biomedicine. Experience in working with microparticles and epidemiological studies are a merit. Further requirements are:
Personal suitability is an important criterion.
