The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

Duties
The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics is seeking an epidemiologist to join the faculty of 16 full Professors, 5 Senior Lecturers and 10 researchers in various epidemiological and statistical disciplines. We want to strengthen the faculty and recruit an epidemiologist considered a world class researcher in any area of epidemiology. The successful candidate is expected to stimulate and develop growth in his/her area of epidemiology and to contribute to the training of undergraduate and graduate students in scientific methodology. The successful candidate is expected to further develop the department's work within the field to a high international competitiveness.

We assume that the future Senior Lecturer will continue her/his research within the already established research area. Some teaching in the Department's undergraduate and/or graduate programs is expected in the position, particularly in the Scientific Development in the medical program. The position can be combined with clinical work.

Entry requirements
To be eligible for employment as a Senior Lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise in Epidemiology, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

Bases of assessment
The Senior Lectureship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2) and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).

Applicants for the position as senior lecturer in epidemiology should demonstrate excellent scientific skills, which should be demonstrated through publications of high-quality research in international journals with high impact. Applicants should have been the principal recipients of research funding and have the potential to secure further funding within his/her research area. Applicants should also have experience in supervising graduate student/students. Applicants should have some collaboration and leadership experience.

The appointee must have undergone 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or having otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at Karolinska Institutet.
