The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including bioorganic chemistry, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, cellular virology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 300 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in the new biomedical research building Neo, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.

BEA, the core facility for bioinformatics and expression analysis, Department of Biosciences and Nutrition, Karolinska Institutet is looking for a full time research engineer. The BEA laboratory is located in the NEO building at the Karolinska South Campus in Huddinge. Today the group includes four research engineers and two bioinformaticians.
BEA - www.bea.ki.se - is a national genomic service facility that provides an extensive repertoire of genomic technologies to ongoing research projects principally at the Karolinska Institutet but also at other Swedish universities. The services include genomic analysis mainly based on the Affymetrix, Agilent, Illumina and ABI platforms for microarrays, next generation sequencing (NGS) and qPCR. Using the platforms above the core facility is responsible for performing high throughput assays including gene expression profiling, genotyping, methylation analysis, chromatin immunoprecipitation and sequencing. The services are very broad and ranges from experimental planning to bioinformatic support.
Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for various sequencing and microarray based expression and genotyping analyses. This includes all steps from assisting in experimental design, DNA/RNA purification, sample preparation and labeling, sequencing library preparation, gene expression/ genotyping analysis by microarray and NGS including data analysis. The position will also include method development and validation, responsibility for quality management and coordination of the quality work. A limited amount of education is also part of the responsibility to spread knowledge about services available through the core facility.
