This comprehensive research project Joint Research Base for the Scientific Advancement of Plant-based Chinese Medicine (JRBCM) is based on the leading expertise in translational medical research at Center for Molecular Medicine at KI, and clinical and preclinical expertise with the founding partner Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine. The main focus of JRBCM is to explore Chinese herbal drugs for development of novel drugs for inflammatory diseases. The herbal drugs will be subjected to detailed bioassay guided isolation of proteins, peptides and secondary metabolites using state of the art methods in pharmacognosy and pharmacology. Interesting discovered bioactivities will be subject to further characterization to elucidate mode of action and identify bioactive compounds.
We are looking for a dedicated research assistant who will work to support ongoing JRBCM project focusing on screening plant-based compounds in a number of cell based assays. The isolation of active compounds will be performed in a step-wise manner applying relevant cell based assays for screening of activity combined with chemical assays. The work requires background in pharmacy and practical knowledge of molecular biology, cellular biology and protein biochemistry techniques. The work also requires previous hands on experience in handling mice.

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group TRANSLATIONAL MEDICAL RESEARCH IN INFLAMMATORY DISEASES. The group is led by Professor Per-Johan Jakobsson and conducts research at the Rheumatology Division, Centrum of Molecular Medicine. The group is aiming to explore targets and pathways in rheumatic diseases driven by inflammation using a pharmacological approach. We focus on the arachidonic acid cascade, development of mPGES-1 inhibitors and epigenetic modulators. We also investigate biomarkers in rheumatic diseases and the pathophysiological role of associated antigens and autoantibodies. We are equipped for eicosanoid research, patient derived cell assays and a platform dedicated to protein expression and antibody generation. We perform proteomics, lipid metabolomics and cytokine profiling; often focused on the effects of prototype drugs targeting under-explored areas of human diseases driven by inflammation https://ki.se/en/meds/research-group-per-johan-jakobsson
The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
