The Department of Medicine at Huddinge comprises of seven units, three research center, and a total of around 70 independent research groups. Our ambition is to be leading department within medical research and education.
Description of the work group/equivalent and its work/focus
The research group is headed by Niklas Björkström, and is active at the Center for Infectious Medicine, Karolinska Institutet Huddinge. The research group is focused on studying the function of innate lymphoid cells such as NK cells and their role in human liver disorders and infections. Our research group studies primary lymphocytes obtained from patients with different liver diseases. We study these lymphocytes using cutting edge techniques such as advanced flow cytometry, microscopy, and RNA expression analysis. To provide mechanistic insight into lymphocyte function, we utilize and develop in vitro cell assays.
