Assistant Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology

The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) conducts research and education in environmental medicine, that is, how the environment and lifestyle affect human health. The Unit for Cardiovascular and Nutritional Epidemiology has an open and friendly atmosphere where scientific discussions are stimulated. We work in an interdisciplinary manner, utilizing both survey-based research and research on biomarkers to increase knowledge about the mechanisms behind the development of chronic diseases. Our overall goal is to strengthen the scientific knowledge base for various primary prevention interventions. In parallel with the research, we work with education, especially within the doctoral education in epidemiology and the medical program at KI.

Your mission

The person we are looking for will develop and conduct education at different levels, primarily in epidemiology and environmental medicine. The person will also conduct epidemiological research in cardiovascular diseases and cancer with a special focus on the influence of dietary factors and cardiometabolic risk indicators. The duties also include having a role as a data analyst in international collaborative efforts and contributing to the department's applied activities in risk assessment.

Eligibility requirements

A person who is eligible to be employed as an assistant lecturer is someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skills, has completed a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence or any other professional skill that is of importance with regard to the subject content of the position and the duties that will be included in the position.

Appointment to the position of assistant senior lecturer requires good scientific skills and excellent pedagogical skills. (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet). 

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

Since Swedish is our official language, it is essential that the applicant can handle the language both orally and in writing.

Assessment criteria

When employed as an assistant lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the qualification requirements and assessment criteria specified in the instructions for the employment procedure apply in relation to the established employment profile.

It is particularly meritorious that you have demonstrated 

• Experience of teaching in basic and advanced epidemiology.
• Experience of both cardiovascular epidemiological research and cancer epidemiological research.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis methods and statistical programs.

It is meritorious that you have demonstrated 

• Experience of applied work in risk assessment.
