Postdoctoral Researcher – in-work poverty and precarious employment (Causal inference, ML)

The New World of Work Research Group aims to develop solutions that promote sustainable, equitable, and healthy work environments by leveraging robust data, causal epidemiological methods, as well as interdisciplinary and international collaboration. Our work is guided by a commitment to societal relevance, with an emphasis on addressing inequalities and improving health for workers in precarious employment situations.

Your mission

Embedded in a strong research environment with access to high quality longitudinal datasets, your Duties and Areas of Responsibility are related to three ongoing projects. 

• Conduct quantitative analysis using causal models and survival models to study the impact of adverse life events on labor market and health trajectories and differential effects among standard and precarious workers.
• Improving the Occupational Register by applying machine learning tools together with experienced data managers and Statistics Sweden
• Contribute to methodological innovation and promote data accessibility for labor market and occupational health studies.
• Perform cohort studies analyzing the impact of in-work poverty and associated labor market trajectories on mental health, cardiovascular disease, and mortality using register data.

These projects provide a unique opportunity to influence policy, develop innovative research tools, and deepen our understanding of the relationship between work, health, and societal challenges. The employment is temporary for two years. 

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a phd or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish phd is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

In addition to the eligibility requirements, we are looking for candidates with the following skills and competencies:

Research Expertise:

• Strong background in epidemiology, public health, labor economics, sociology, or a related field.
• Proficiency in advanced quantitative methods, such as longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, or machine learning.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in statistical software such as R, Python, or Stata.
• Familiarity with handling large datasets, including cleaning, managing, and analyzing complex data.
• Experience with tools for data visualization and presenting research findings effectively.

Additional Merits:

• Previous experience in policy-oriented research or contributing to policy dialogues.
• Knowledge of labor market dynamics, non-standard employment, or social security systems.
• Experience with open-access tools, code development, or GitHub repositories.
• Experience analyzing individual or group-level trajectories over time using advanced modeling techniques, such as latent growth models, sequence analysis, or trajectory clustering, with applications to labor market or health outcomes
