Would you like to contribute to improve environmental health for women and their infants and work on climate health preparedness? If so, join our research group in environmental epidemiology conducting studies related to pregnancy, delivery and the neonatal period using national population-based health and quality registers and climate data as well as studies on health care preparedness in relation to climate hazards. We are an expanding and exciting research group with a welcoming workplace within the unit of environmental epidemiology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine.

Your mission

As an assistant researcher you will be involved in researching maternal and infant health effects of high temperature and air pollution. Your role will include data management and epidemiological research output for an EU financed project: HIGH Horizons (Heat Indicators in Global Health; https://www.high-horizons.eu) which is a multi-country and multi-institutional collaboration project that includes several workstream to assess the impact of heat on maternal and infant health and health worker performance as well as a mitigation package of interventions. Your area of responsibility includes assisting research assessing the impact of heat on maternal, perinatal and neonatal adverse outcomes using the national Swedish pregnancy register and other data sources in Europe and Africa. The work will include, linkage of climate and health outcome data, data analyses and manuscript preparation in collaboration with other researchers across the relevant work package. Furthermore you will also assist in studies and activities related to healthcare preparedness towards extreme weather events. This includes ongoing work on the effect of flooding on emergency dispatch delivery in Sweden as well as work with the ongoing Climate and Health seminar series organized by our group. 

Your profile

Eligibility for this position includes a Masters degree within medicine, public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or related field, formal education in epidemiology or biostatistics and experience in epidemiological research. The successful applicant has a high level of proficiency in statistical methods applicable to epidemiology and be an independent user of statistical software (preferably SAS, STATA or R). You are organized, responsible, enjoy working in a team, and have demonstrated oral and written fluency in English. Merits include Swedish proficiency, biomedical knowledge including maternal and infant health, spatial modelling and GIS knowledge, short term designs within environmental epidemiology (time series and case cross over designs) as well as experience with big data sets, documented experience in the effects of extreme weather events and impacts on health.
