The Unit of Integrative Epidemiology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine is looking for a part-time research specialist (20%). The main goal of our research is to improve the understanding of the causes and consequences of ill health and disease, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases, psychiatric disorders, and cancer. We strive for multidisciplinary approaches in epidemiologic research and integrate different scientific tools when addressing specific research questions. Description of the subject area

In this position you will be part of the research group for Epidemiology of Women's Mental Health, led by group leader and Associate Professor Donghao Lu. The research aims to study women's mental health and to bridge the gap between obstetrics/gynecology and psychiatry. Using international large-scale population-based cohorts, we aim to understand the underlying biological mechanisms that influence women's mental health and potential health consequences. Current research areas are: 1) Risk factors, comorbidities and health consequences of reproductive mood disorders 2) Gender differences in mental health

Your mission

The candidate will be responsible for project coordination (e.g., facilitating data acquisition processes, including the application for ethical permits and database access, and coordinating the research team), data analysis, result dissemination, manuscript writing, and supervision of junior researchers in the area of perinatal depression research. The candidate should have a strong background in epidemiology and data analysis, and should show great interest and experience in coordinating interdisciplinary research groups and performing tasks between different sectors (e.g., research institutions, health care sectors, and industries).

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

The candidate is expected to have:

  •  A Degree of Doctor in a relevant area, such as reproductive medicine or epidemiology
  • Great experience in both register-based research and molecular studies on perinatal depression
  • Extensive documentation of experience with scientific writing within women’s mental health
  • Experience in presentation of scientific results in international contexts
  • Documented knowledge of research ethics and ethical applications and register data ordering
  • Strong statistical programing skills, i.e., SAS, Stata, R.
  • Advanced experience in project coordination and data management
  • Excellence in written and verbal communication using both English and Swedish
  • Attention to detail, problem solving ability and social skills are highly valuabl
  • Knowledgeable regarding GDPR rules and legal regulations
  • Willing to take responsibility in leadership work
  • Previous experience in student supervision and teaching
  • An established network within women’s health

Assessment criteria

This position has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).

We put particular emphasis on research quality and future potential of conducting cutting-edge research in psychiatric epidemiology, with a focus on the comorbidity between mental disorders and somatic conditions. Working experience in different sectors is particularly meritorious and will be considered when applicable.
