Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Our dynamic research group at Karolinska is dedicated to exploring signalling processes across various cell types. Utilizing advanced imaging techniques and cutting-edge genetic tools, including transgenic animals and iPSC derived models, we delve into the intricate mechanisms governing cell division, differentiation, and neural migration/networking in the developing brain. A particular emphasis of our work lies in unraveling the complexities of calcium signaling in these processes and its modulation.

Your role

The applicant will employ a diverse array of experimental approaches, including animal models, iPSC derived neural cells, and brain organoids. He/She will use these modelsystems in combination with advanced live imaging, image processing, and molecular techniques, to investigate the role of calcium oscillations during brain development and their implications for neurogenetic disorders.

Who are you?

To qualify, the applicant must have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, genetics, molecular biology or a closely related field. He/She should demonstrate extensive expertise in both vivo and in vitro modelling of neurogenetic disorders, as well as a strong background in translational research, particularly in the area of cell signalling. The applicant must also be proficient in behavioral paradigms, live imaging, light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, cellular-molecular biology and avanced imaging analyses techniques. Additionaly, the applicant should exhibit a strong scientific interest and a proven track record of high-impact publications and succesful acquisition of funding through (inter)national competitions.

Eligibility requirements

  • Strong background in neurogenetic disorders and translational research.
  • Demonstrated expertise in investigating brain disorders in vivo and in vitro, including Drosophila melanogaster and iPSC derived monolayer and brain organoid models.
  • Strong background in behavioural paradigms, live imaging and imaging analyses, molecular biology techniques, neural differentiation protocols and light microscopy.
  • Profiency with spectral analyses of calcium oscillations, Matlab and R.
  • Demonstrated abbility to think creatively and develop novel research paradigms.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven track record of high-impact publications, succesful research projects and acquiring funding in (inter)national competition.
  • Experience in managing national and international research collaborations.
