We invite applications for a research infrastructure specialist to work part time in the Histocore at Biomedicum and part time in the group of Camilla Svensson, professor in cellular and molecular pain physiology. The position will be placed in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, which has collegial, international and dynamic research environment. The Histocore provide consulation and hands-on service to researchers at the Karolinska Institutet and beyond. The Svensson lab has a strong focus on pain mechanisms in arthritis and fibromyalgia and offer an exciting and collaborative research work environment where you can make a difference.

Your mission

We look for a motivated person with interest assisting the Director of the histocore (Camilla Svensson) in tailor the in service to the need of the customers as well as day-to-day tasks associated with the Histocore, including consultations and hands-on help. In the Svensson lab your primary mission will be to implement new technology and develop new protocols for the lab, as well as to lead certain research questions forward. Your tasks in the Histocore will include:

  • Assist the Director in the development of the core facility
  • Implement new methodology and facilitate collaboration with other KI core facilities
  • Provide consultation for processing of different types of tissue for histological and immunohistological and RNA based analysis.
  • Perform custom requests applying the methodologies present in the histocore
  • Purchases of products (Agresso), maintain chemical inventory (Klara) and equipment
  • Work with issues related to environment, biosafety and risk assessments

You will also work closely with team members of the Svensson lab to implement and develop new technology and conduction of certain experiments in an independent manner. These tasks will be designed based on your interest and experience.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Research Infrastructure Specialist the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a doctorate or a qualification from a foreign higher education institution deemed equivalent to a Swedish degree of doctor. The applicant must also have demonstrated technological and methodological expertise.

Several years of experience from method implementation and development, in particular related to protein and mRNA analysis in tissues and you are eager to learn more. You have in depth knowledge in tissue processing for histological, antibody-based and mRNA analysis. Acquaintance to the Swedish language will be advantageous, but specifically fluency in oral and written English is a prerequisite for an application. The successful candidate is a team player, a good communicator, is well-organized and enjoy interactions with researchers and students. You have a deep sense of responsibility, take initiatives and have capacity and flexibility to anticipate and solve daily challenges. You are service-minded, and you would like to contribute to the success of other researchers
