Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Svenningsson lab is a translational and multidisciplinary research group studying movement disorders, particularly Parkinson’s disease. We use cellular and animal models together with novel molecular imaging techniques to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the diseases. Our goals are to identify novel biomarkers and medically relevant therapeutic targets. At the clinic, we do longitudinal studies on cohorts of patients with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, assessing both motor and non-motor symptoms. We also perform clinical trials with novel pharmacological therapies.

Your mission

The postdoctoral researchers mission is to utilize sophisticated mouse models and state-of-the-art molecular imaging techniques, such as positron emission tomography (PET), to comprehensively map the regulatory dynamics of the immune system in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Parkinson's Disease, with a focus on the progression of αSyn pathology. The work also involves validating PET radioligand candidates binding to alpha-synuclein in the enteric nervous system and central nervous system.

We expect the successful candidate to significantly contribute to the project planning and management, supervision of students, as well as manuscript writing and navigation of the peer-review process.

Your profile

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in advancing our understanding of the interplay between the immune system and Parkinson's Disease.

PhD degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Imaging, or related field and familiarity with alpha-synuclein pathology and molecular mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease are requirements. Experience in working with animal models of Parkinson’s disease and having a certificate (FELASA) to work with animals is also required. Previous experience in PET radioligand development, preferably with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease is required.  Very good skills of written and spoken English is also required.

A working knowledge of relevant in vitro methodologies, including binding assay, autoradiography, and immunohistostaining, is desirable. Strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of statistics for image data analysis are preferred. The successful candidate have a high level of self- motivation and independency, work well with others in a team and are willing to supervise or share experience with students.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
