Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The main interests of the Spalding research group are to investigate properties of human adipose tissue, with particular attention to human adipocyte biology. We investigate basic cellular functions, such as senescence, adipocyte lipid and cell turnover, adipocyte responses to obesity and hyperinsulinemia and cellular heterogeneity in human adipose tissue depots. Understanding how adipocytes respond to obesity and their contributions to health and pathology in humans, is a major focus of the group. This focus, and our well-established collaborations with clinicians within Sweden and abroad, maximizes our potential to translate our research findings to the clinic.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing core techniques central to the laboratory’s research. This includes handling human tissue (tissue dissection, cell, and nuclei isolation), immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy, molecular biology (DNA and RNA isolation, qPCR, protein analyses including western blot and ELISA/Mesoscale) as well as cell and tissue culture. An important aspect of the position will be to co-ordinate with surgical collaborators the pick-up and delivery of biopsy samples.
