The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

Description of the subject area

The predictive medicine group is focused on application of machine learning and AI for development and validation of predictive models for biomedical applications, with a particular interest in cancer precision medicine and computational pathology. Our research is based on large and high-dimensional datasets across multiple modalities, including molecular, clinical and histopathology imaging data.

Your mission

This research specialist position will be responsible for driving precision medicine studies in the areas of computational pathology and epidemiology. You will contribute to establishing new studies and datasets, developing methodology, as well as developing and validating specific AI&ML models. You will also be responsible for supervision of students, grant writing and project management.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Assessment criteria

The applicant shall have:

  • Experience from grant writing and demonstrated ability to independently securing grants
  • Experience from study design and large-scale data management of studies with multiple data modalities including histopathology image data and clinical data
  • Prior experience of multiple research projects and publications in the areas of computational pathology as well as in epidemiology
  • Prior experience from leading and organizing data pre-processing, model development and implementation, in the area of computational pathology
  • Extensive experience in Python development
  • Extensive experience in common deep learning frameworks, such as pytorch and tensorflow
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required

It is meritorious that the applicant have

  • Experience from teaching university level courses
  • Experience from presenting at national and international meetings and conferences
