Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The neuroepidemiology research group is focussed on increasing the understanding of neurological diseases, especially multiple sclerosis (MS), its course and consequences, and identifying factors that influence MS outcomes. The group consists of about ten epidemiologists, geneticists, neurologists and statisticians. We aim to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations between researchers, patients and clinicians through several national and international projects with a special focus on collaborations with pharmaceutical companies on safety studies. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you will have the opportunity to contribute to high quality research at international top level.

Your mission

We are looking for a Research Specialist to support and participate in epidemiological studies. This includes handling and organizing large datasets such as data from the Swedish MS registry and other national and international databases as well as preparing and performing analysis of large datasets. The projects are typically related to various MS outcomes such as disease progression, treatment effects and the impact of socioeconomic factors on MS and will be conducted within the research group as well as part of larger national and international collaborations. For this position, the successful applicant will be responsible for the Swedish contribution to an international project on the safety of new pharmacological treatments for MS.

Eligibility requirements

The candidate should have at least 2 years of experience from working with large databases and patient registries as well as significant knowledge of different statistical analysis methods including R, STATA and/or SAS. Proficiency with SQL software will be beneficial. Previous experience from working with data from MS patient registries will be highly meritorious. Excellent knowledge of English will be required. This position involves many collaborations with colleagues, other research groups and larger consortia and hence the ability to work with others is essential.  The successful candidate is also expected to be able to work independently, show initiative and be flexible to what tasks need to be given priority at any given time. We stress scientific expertise when assessing applicants.

To be eligible for employment as a research specialist the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a doctorate or a qualification from a foreign higher education institution deemed equivalent to a Swedish Degree of Doctor, and have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation. For this position the degree should be with focus on statistics/biostatistics, epidemiology or genetics.
