The single cell team, part of the National Genomics Infrastructure (NGI), is looking for a highly qualified Research Infrastructure Specialist.

Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, www.scilifelab.se) is a national center for large-scale life science research with an advanced technological infrastructure. NGI, is the largest technical platform in SciLifeLab. It is a national resource that offers an infrastructure for state-of-the-art DNA sequencing and SNP genotyping to researchers across Sweden. By providing access to advanced genomics techniques and providing guidelines and support for sampling, study design, protocol selection and bioinformatics analysis, we hope to enable world-leading research. The focus of the single cell team is on high throughput streamlined transcriptome and genome analysis of large numbers of individual eukaryotic cells.

Your mission

ESCG constructs RNA and DNA sequence libraries from single-cell suspensions using state-of-the-art technologies. You will handle delicate primary cell samples, fragile RNA and sensitive instruments daily.

Your responsibilities will include all aspects of running single-cell methods, RNA-isolation and sequencing library construction, microscopy, image analysis, quality control and trouble-shooting. Methods include Smart-seq3, methods run on the Chromium system from 10x Genomics and custom protocols. Additionally, you will operate liquid handling robots, qPCR/PCR, and Bioanalyzer instruments. Your work may also include to implement new single-cell methods in the facility.

Other tasks may include project coordination, user consultations, cost calculations, invoice preparations, development of laboratory protocols (SOPs), procurement, ordering, shipments, inventory and risk assessments.

You are service-minded and enjoy learning new methods. You are thorough, flexible, diligent in your laboratory work and proficient in work documentation. The position requires being able to work independently as well as in collaboration with others. You are able to work with several projects in parallel. You will work in an international team with frequent interactions with customers, and therefore clear and informative communication skills, general computing proficiency, and a good knowledge of English are essential. Strong interpersonal skills will be highly valued.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Research Infrastructure Specialist the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a doctorate or a qualification from a foreign higher education institution deemed equivalent to a Swedish degree of doctor. The applicant must also have demonstrated technological and methodological expertise.

Assessment criteria

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, biomedical science, biotechnology or similar discipline
  • Good knowledge in molecular biology techniques
  • Communication in English
  • Experience with laboratory work following Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), including biosafety rules

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Previous work with single-cell techniques
  • Previous work with RNA and primary cells
  • Method development in the molecular biology field
  • Experience with high-throughput sample preparation of RNA and/or DNA
  • Experience with laboratory automation
  • Experience with data handling, programming and bioinformatics
  • Experience with a LIMS system
