Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

A position is now open in Professor Malin Flodström Tullberg’s group to study immune responses to infections and vaccines targeting viruses associated with the development of type 1 diabetes. The research group focuses on the natural history of type 1 diabetes and the development of preventative treatments. The successful candidate will join a stimulating research environment at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, Karolinska Institutet and be part of a new international EU consortium.

Your mission

The main focus of the studies is to monitor T cell responses induced by infection and vaccination. The studies build on recent work identifying epitopes recognized by CD8+ T cells during infections by viruses linked to type 1 diabetes and include the use of humanized mouse models, enteroviruses and new vaccines against such viruses. Assessments include the use of methods to monitor virus replication and tissue damage, HLA-I multimer assays and advanced flow cytometry. The studies may also include investigations into the B cell- and antibody response to infection and vaccination.

The candidate is expected to contribute to experimental design, experimentation, data analyses and publication of results. Furthermore, the candidate will participate in various research-related activities including group meetings, departmental seminars, national/international scientific meetings, as well as contribute to routine work within the research group and help supervise students within the group.

The work will be carried out at the Center for Infections Medicine (CIM), Karolinska Institutet and in collaboration with a group led by Professor Roberto Mallone, at Insitute Cochine, Paris. The position is funded via a Horizon Europe grant (ENT1DEP) and the candidate will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from leading researchers in the diabetes immunology field.
