Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Join our dynamic and collaborative research team dedicated to unravelling the complexities of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and related neurodegenerative conditions. We offer an opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute significantly to cutting-edge research in this field.

Your mission

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will spearhead investigations into the correlations among diverse biomarkers collected from ALS patients. Your primary focus will involve studying the correlation between the immune response and other biomarkers, mental health questionnaires, and disease spread patterns. Additionally, you'll play a pivotal role in exploring the feasibility of constructing predictive models utilizing available biomarkers for a progression rate model.

Your responsibilities will encompass a wide array of pivotal tasks, including:

  1. Longitudinal Biomarker Analysis:
  • Conducting a comprehensive longitudinal study analyzing biomarkers across different stages of ALS progression to identify dynamic changes and potential predictive patterns.
  • Correlating immune response markers with disease severity and progression, emphasizing their role as potential prognostic indicators.
  1. Multi-Omics Integration:
  • Integrating multi-omics data (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics) with immune response profiles to comprehensively understand ALS pathophysiology and identify novel therapeutic targets.
  1. Machine Learning Applications:
  • Implementing machine learning algorithms to develop predictive models based on biomarker data, aiming to forecast disease progression rates and patient outcomes.
  • Exploring the application of AI techniques to analyze large-scale biomarker datasets for pattern recognition and personalized medicine approaches.
  1. Collaborative Clinical Studies:
  • Collaborating with clinical partners to acquire diverse patient cohorts for biomarker validation studies, ensuring the clinical relevance and applicability of research findings.
  • Initiating collaborations with global institutions to expand datasets for a more comprehensive understanding of ALS biomarkers and their implications.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

We are seeking a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in a relevant field (Neuroscience, Immunology, Epidemiology, etc.).
  • A proven track record in neuroscience research with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in statistical analysis, experimental design, and epidemiological study designs. (Experience with machine learning/artificial intelligence is advantageous).
  • Expertise in biobanking procedures, including sample handling, ethical considerations, and legal aspects.
  • Previous experience in managing research projects and mentoring junior researchers/students.
  • Excellent communication skills with a history of impactful presentations and published papers.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
