Postdoctoral researcher in geriatric epidemiology, with a focus on depression and chronic somatic diseases - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The present position is based on two recently funded research projects on depression in old age at ARC. Specifically, successful candidate will be involved in studies the interplay of chronic somatic diseases with depression in old age, with particular emphasis on bidirectional associations and underlying biological mechanisms. She/he will also contribute to the activities of a project examining the natural course of old-age depression and depression’s role in complex healthcare utilization patterns in older adults. Taking advantage of the well-characterized Swedish population-based Swedish National Study on Aging and Care in Kungsholmen (SNAC-K) that also includes linkages to several Swedish registers, the applicant, alongside team members, will analyze data on over 3000 individuals aged 60+ spanning more than 20 years.

Your mission

An important task for the selected candidate will be to contribute conceptually and methodologically to the research within these projects. The applicant will be supervised by associate professor Serhiy Dekhtyar from ARC. In addition, the person will have the opportunity to initiate their own projects. Production of reports and publications for peer-reviewed journals as well as other ways of disseminating knowledge are the central tasks in the position.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

We are looking for a candidate that has the required background and the capability to work in a multidisciplinary team, to be independent and able to take initiatives as well as to find solutions proactively. The applicants must also possess good organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Medical doctor with training in geriatrics and experience in psychiatry.
• PhD in Epidemiology.
• Substantial work experience in longitudinal data analysis and interpretation, particularly of population-based epidemiological data.
• Research experience in the field of old-age depression, detailed knowledge of and experience with depressive symptom assessments, particularly in older adults.
• Excellent command of statistical software (e.g., Stata, R), particularly in relation to complex modeling approaches (e.g., Markov Multistate Models or Network Analysis).
• Fluent in written and spoken English

• Ability to work in a collaborative environment with researchers with quantitative and clinical backgrounds.
• Interest in professional development in the field of aging epidemiology.
