The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

Division

The research group of Michael Landreh is located at Karolinska Institutet in Solna and the SciLifeLab. The group consists currently of two PhD students, four postdocs, and an associate professor. Our group works with all aspects of protein biochemistry, with a focus on how regulatory pathways and protein interactions can be exploited therapeutically. Our lab includes state-of-the-art mass spectrometry, microscopy, and protein engineering facilities, providing a unique environment for the study of protein interactions from the molecular to the organismal level.

Your mission

The Amanuens will perform protein purification and characterization of disordered proteins that play roles in cancer and neurodegeneration. Duties include the optimization of purification protocols, verification of the target proteins with mass spectrometry and gel electrophoresis, sample preparation for cryo-EM and characterization of protein interactions using microscopy assays. The employment is limited to 25% for a maximum duration of 6 months.

Your profile

Requirements

  • Registered student at a University / higher education
  • BSc degree or equivalent in biomedical sciences.
  • Experience with molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and mass spectrometry.

Experience working with intrinsically disordered proteins is a plus.

You need to have an excellent command of the English language and will thrive in a multi-national team composed of structural biochemists and cell biologists.
