The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

Associate Professor Juan Du's lab works on host-microbiome interaction projects within a scientifically translational environment. The group employs a broad interdisciplinary approach to studying the interface between clinical epidemiology and the microbiological, immunological, and genetic aspects of the human microbiome and its association with health and disease. We are now looking for a Research specialist to join our group.

Your mission

The candidate is expected to play a leading role in generating scientific hypothesis, conducting experiments, analyzing data, preparing presentation of results and manuscript. The candidate should also be able to work independently. The candidate will work on several projects related to vaginal microbiome including culture and interaction studies on vaginal microbes.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a Research specialist a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. 

Requirements

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with the following experience:

  • Documented expertise in cell culture, especially primary cell culture, cell transfection, siRNA screening, and related oncogenesis mechanism studies.
  • Experience of RNA extraction
  • Experience of expression-based array analysis
  • Experience of RT-qPCR
  • Experience of protein extraction and western blotting are also needed
  • Excellent English skills, in both spoken and written English
  • Good skills in scientific writing

The applicant should have good communication skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team of researchers. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability, as well as ability and previous experience of laboratory work.
