The Unit of Integrative Epidemiology at Institute for Environmental Medicine (IMM), Karolinska Institutet (KI), aims to improve the understanding of the causes and consequences of health and diseases, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases, psychiatric disorders, and cancer. We strive for multidisciplinary approaches in epidemiologic research and integrate different scientific tools when addressing specific research questions.
The Unit of Integrative Epidemiology at IMM is now looking for one postdoctoral researcher to lead and coordinate projects as part of an international collaboration relating to neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases, using data from national registers, longitudinal cohorts, and biobanks.
We are interested in studying the relationship between neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, attention-deficit hyperactive disorder, and intellectual disability and later life neurodegenerative diseases including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's disease, and dementia. As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to take a leading role in the entire research process, from research planning and project administration, ethical application, data processing and analysis, to interpretation and dissemination of research findings. You will be working as part of an international collaboration that involves partners from several countries, as well as close collaborations across departments at Karolinska Institutet. You are also expected to participate in the supervision of doctoral or master students and teaching. This position provides a fixed employment of 2 years.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
Specific requirements for the position:
Because of the heavy emphasis on statistical programming required for this position, we request that you submit 1-2 samples of your code from one the above programs with a paragraph explaining what the code accomplishes. Because scientific writing and research communication are also key tasks in this position, we also ask that you submit a sample of your scientific writing where you can demonstrate that you had the primary responsibility for writing (i.e., a first author paper or manuscript).
Experience with advanced epidemiological analyses (such as mediation analyses, Mendelian Randomization, and family-based study designs) is advantageous, as is previous medical training. Experience from international collaboration, project administration, and/or teaching will also be appreciated.
We place great importance on personal suitability and are looking for highly creative and motivated employees who appreciates working in a team. We expect the applicants to show good cooperation skills and at the same time great independence.
