The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

The Division of Clinical Immunology is host to activities that cover a broad spectrum within the subject area of immunology. The Katarina Le Blanc research group is now offering a desirable fixed-term position as a research assistant to work on important projects in a positive and productive work environment. The employment is fixed-term for 12 months.

Your mission

We are looking for person who is willing to contribute to several ongoing projects in the Le Blanc group, located in Karolinska Institutet Huddinge, Campus Flemingsberg. Your responsibilities will include the culturing of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from healthy bone marrow donors to be used in ongoing experiments, along with contributing to an existing biobank of MSCs for future use. Our main areas of focus regarding MSCs are their clinical applications in inflammatory-mediated neurodegenerative disorders, such Alzheimer’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.

You will be undertaking your own individual experiments and projects as well as collaborating with other group members for their projects from time to time. In addition to these responsibilities, you will also be entrusted with some administrative tasks relating to the laboratory. Your presence will also be expected at the weekly group meetings during which we discuss the current ongoings of the group/laboratory.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly driven individual with an aptitude for science and a strong interest in immunology. You should have a Bachelor in medical sciencea and have relevant laboratory experience. Knowledge in the field of regenerative medicine and experience in working with mesenchymal stem cells is desirable. Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team. Fluency (oral and written) in English is a requirement, while fluency in Swedish or any other language is an advantage. Critical thinking, the ability to analyze data and work efficiently are additional qualities we are looking for.

Required skills:

  • Freezing and thawing cells
  • Cell isolation from buffy coat (PBMCs, monoctyes, T-cells)
  • T cell immuno-suppression assays.
  • Cell culturing
  • Experience working with MSCs
  • Flow cytometry experience
  • ELISA Immunoassay
  • Data Analysis (GraphPad, Excel)
