The postdoctoral research position is for lab (experimental) based research in the research group of Nordberg Translational Molecular Imaging Lab’ which consists of multi-disciplinary team of PhD students, post docs, experienced researchers and clinicians working at the forefront of translational dementia research. The research group has a translational approach using both in vitro and in vivo molecular brain imaging techniques, and our aim is to explore the complex pathophysiological features of neurodegenerative diseases, with a strong focus on Alzheimer’s disease but also other neurodegenerative disorders, to develop novel diagnostic markers and drug targets for early intervention in disease pathophysiology. Independent work is combined with strong collaboration within the group and own ideas and initiatives are encouraged.

Your mission

We are inviting applications for the position of postdoctoral researcher in translational research with a strong focus on understanding the role of different pathological hallmarks (amyloid, tau, astrocytes, microglia, synaptic losses) as brain and fluid biomarkers in the pathogenesis of AD and other dementia disorders. The position will give you the opportunity to work on translational/clinically relevant projects aligned with the broad goals of the research group not limited to Alzheimer´s disease but also to other neurodegenerative disorders. One research project will be focusing on characterizing the role of alpha7 nicotinic receptors in astrocytes and amyloid mechanisms using a new PET radiotracer.

The duties will involve day to day lab work, compilation of data and manuscripts writing for publication, grant applications, participating, and presenting progress updates in internal group meetings, division’s PhD/Postdoc seminars and journal club and at national/international conferences when required.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

We are looking for someone who has research and lab experience in the field of Alzheimer’s disease or in other brain disorders and expertise in protein biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, cell culture and other biochemical techniques. Experience of radioligand studies and autoradiography is a plus. The candidate should be self-motivated, with a strong interest in research, and able to work both independently as well as being a good team player with excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal). The candidate should be reliable, detail-oriented and collaborative, and with an ability to work without requiring extensive training or the need for close supervision. Experience of work in international research laboratories and good publications record are appreciated.
