We are looking for a motivated postdoc to be part of our research group with a focus on mixture toxicology at the Unit of Biochemical Toxicology, Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM). The position is placed in the research group of Kristian Dreij in a project that aims to determine and evaluate mutational signatures of environmental complex mixtures to improve the understanding of carcinogenesis.
Experimentally determined mutational signatures have provided important insights into the agents and processes underlying the causes of human cancer. Although humans mainly are exposed to complex mixtures of agents which might contribute to cancer development, this research has so far exclusively focused on single mutagens. The overall objective of this project is to determine and evaluate mutational signatures induced by environmental complex mixtures in human iPS cells, thereby increasing the understanding of the mechanisms and role of mixtures vs single compounds in cancer etiology. This project is conceptually novel and expected to have important consequences on our understanding of mutational signatures and cancer development.
The post doc will primarily use basic cell biology methodologies together with next-generation sequencing to determine mutational signatures and gene expression profiles. The post doc will perform bioinformatic analyses of the sequencing data together with collaborators and NBI Sweden. Other tasks include writing manuscripts and participating in meetings and discussions with partners as well as teaching. The position is temporary for 2 years, with possibility of extension.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who can work independently and develop their own ideas and visions and with a strong drive for a future career in research. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. from an appropriate discipline such as toxicology, cell- or molecular biology with an in-depth understanding of cellular signaling, mutagenesis and carcinogenesis. Documented experience of cell culture and standard cell biology techniques is required. Documented experience of performing and analyzing in vitro toxicology experiments is highly meriting. Documented experience of data analysis of next-generation sequencing data is meritorious. The candidate must be able to work well in a team with researchers from different disciplines, have good collaboration and communication skills and must be able to communicate well in English, both orally and in writing. In addition, personal suitability will be a factor in the selection process.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
