Karolinska Institutet, Department of Oncology-Pathology, Cancer Research KI (CRKI)

This position concerns the coordination of the KI-wide CRKI network but is administratively located in the Department of Oncology-Pathology, where basic, translational and clinical research and education related to cancer is conducted. Approximately 300 people from 40 nations currently work at the department. More than 30 research groups with different cancer research profiles are involved and we have about 110 PhD students. The Department of Oncology-Pathology is responsible for undergraduate training in pathology, oncology and forensic medicine for medical students, as well as tumor biology courses for biomedical students and pathology training for optometrists.

Department

The strategic research program in cancer at KI, Cancer Research KI (CRKI) , administered through the Department of Oncology and Pathology, is an overall umbrella organization with the mission to represent cancer research at KI, which is a broad and geographically distributed research area with more than 360 principal investigators representing most, if not all, KI institutions.
The work within the organization has continuously grown since its start in 2010 and Cancer Research KI works to further strengthen and expand the already strong cancer research at Karolinska Institutet. Cancer Research KI works to increase contacts between cancer researchers from different disciplines, from basic tumor biology to clinical oncology, and to increase collaboration with external actors, including industry.

Your mission

The Research Coordinator will promote and facilitate collaboration between the research teams involved. In addition, he/she will coordinate and be responsible for communication activities. This includes the promotion and coordination of external contacts with e.g. hospitals, industry and international research centers. Budget and coordination of scientific events (conferences, summer schools, theme days, etc.) are also part of the job. The work also includes taking minutes at various board meetings and being responsible for the call process for research grants (call, advertising and compilation of applications received). In addition, the position includes coordination and work (writing of) EU applications and other international applications where CRKI takes part, close collaboration with Karolinska CCC (the country's first Comprehensive Cancer Center), coordination of the annual report for CRKI, coordination and participation in regular working group meetings and reference group meetings. The position thus constitutes a variety of tasks that all aim to coordinate and strengthen all the activities conducted within CRKI.
The research coordinator works in close coordination with the CRKI Executive Board  and is responsible for the supervision of a research administrator.

Your profile

Qualifications
  • The research coordinator should have a PhD in the biomedical field and a good experience in the field of cancer research.
  • The research coordinator must have good language skills in Swedish and English, both in speech and writing, and experience of oral presentations.
Merits
  • The research coordinator should be service-oriented, structured, independent, flexible, take initiative and be able to cope with occasional fast paced work and handle several different tasks at the same time. In addition, cooperation and prioritization skills are required.
  • The research coordinator should have work experience from academia and/or industry of project coordination and budget responsibility and preferably have experience in communication and coordination of networks.
  • The Research Coordinator should also be a good communicator.
