The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.
Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at http://ki.se/en/meb
The prostate cancer group at MEB conducts international cutting-edge research in prostate diagnostics and tailored treatment. Specifically, the group has for several years worked with artificial intelligence-based models to assist pathologists in their assessment of prostate biopsies.
In order to build models based on artificial intelligence to be used for pathological assessment of prostate biopsies, it is required that the physical glasses on which the biopsies are located are digitized with the help of special scanners for digital pathology. Clinical variables describing the biopsies also need to be collected from reports written by pathologists in several different languages. Upon completed data collection, the aim of the project is to compare the diagnostic performance of an AI based algorithm across different scanner devices.
Your responsibility is 1): to curate pathology information from medical reports written in Italian and French into structured Excel tables; 2) to digitize glass slides of prostate biopsies into high-resolution images with a digital pathology scanner; 3) to conduct computational experiments to evaluate AI diagnostic performance on the digitized images.
The position is a full time employment of 2 months (June 19 – August 20, 2023). The work can only be conducted on site in Solna.
You are thorough and work well independently and together with others. Being able to read the reports in French and Italian is a requirement. You must also be able to communicate with colleagues in English. We also require earlier experience of digital pathology scanning on Grundium Ocus scanners. Experience of processing whole slide images from Leica, Hamamatsu, Philips and Grundium scanners, development of diagnostic AI algorithms in PyTorch and high-performance GPU computing are considered merits.
Other knowledge in medicine, digital pathology or computer science is an advantage.
Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.
