Do you want to be involved in developing education and research at one of the world's highest-ranked dental schools? The Department of Odontology at Karolinska Institutet has been ranked best in the world three times in terms of education and research. Here we provide undergraduate education for dental-, dental hygienist- and postgraduate students as well as master and doctoral studies.
The orthodontic unit provides undergraduate training in orthodontics, international postgraduate training in orthodontics and master and doctoral education. Within the University Dental Clinic treatments are performed in orthodontics. The unit of orthodontics focuses on research on patients with craniofacial malformations.
Orthodontics is the odontology specialty that addresses the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental malocclusions caused by mal-positioned teeth and/or jaws. Orthodontics encompasses early interceptive measures to prevent more extensive treatment needs later in life as well as treatment with removable or fixed appliances. In the case of dentofacial deformities and craniofacial conditions the orthodontist is part of a multidisciplinary team that follows the patient throughout childhood and adolescence. Since orthodontics bridges dentistry and medicine, in Sweden it is organized as an integrated part of both dentistry and the health care system. Orthodontics is strong and well-established area at Karolinska Institutet, with research focus on jaw orthopedics including reconstruction of cleft lip and palate and genetic factors.
We are looking for a person who is passionate for developing education and research on high international level within the orthodontic and jaw orthopedic field. Of particular importance is to develop the collaboration between the Department of Dental Medicine and University Dental Clinic, Clinical genetics, the Karolinska University Hospital, and the work within the Stockholm Craniofacial Center. An important task is to strengthen the links between research and education. The applicant is expected to take an active role in educational activities by leading and developing both theoretical and clinical undergraduate education and planning of teaching activities as well as development of courses and study programmes offered at master, and doctoral levels of education.
The applicant should conduct active research at a high international standard. The position as Professor also includes supervision of doctoral and postdoctoral students and to develop the research activities of the discipline. The applicant should have received research grants as main applicant in national and/or international competition and the position includes active efforts to apply for external research funding.
To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on education and research the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical expertise; good scientific expertise, and clinical expertise.
The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.
The position will also be combined with a position as a specialist trained dentist in orthodontics (specialty) at the University Dental Clinic, Karolinska Institutet and therefore the candidate must have a DDS with specialist competence in orthodontics, or corresponding competence, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing dentistry in Sweden.
Since the position includes clinical work, the successful applicant must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian, or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).
