Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The neuroepidemiology research group is focussed on increasing the understanding of neurological diseases, especially multiple sclerosis (MS), its course and consequences, and identifying factors that influence MS outcomes. The group includes epidemiologists, geneticists, neurologists and mathematicians. We aim to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations between researchers, patients and clinicians through several national and international projects with a special focus on collaborations with pharmaceutical companies on safety studies. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you will have the opportunity to contribute to high quality research at international top level. The group currently consists of about ten people.

Your mission

We are looking for a Research Specialist to support and participate in epidemiological studies. This includes handling and organising large datasets such as data from the Swedish MS registry and other national and international databases as well as preparing and performing analysis of large datasets. This person will be working on projects related to various MS outcomes such as disease progression, treatment effects and the impact of socioeconomic factors on MS. These research projects will be conducted within the neuroepidemiology group as well as part of larger national and international collaborations. For the suitable candidate there will be possibilities to carry out research projects in collaboration with other members of the research group

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

A PhD degree with a focus on statistics/biostatistics, epidemiology, or neuroscience is required. You should have at least two years of experience working with large databases and patient registers, with significant knowledge of programming and various statistical analysis methods including federated analysis, C, R, and Python programming. Experience in deep learning and neural networks, including frameworks such as Keras and TensorFlow, as well as experience in GPU programming in CUDA or OpenCL, is advantageous.

For this role, experience in Post Authorization Safety Studies (PASS) in international collaborations with real-world data is a requirement, along with good knowledge of MS. Therefore, experience in working with data from MS patient registers is highly desirable. This position involves many collaborations with researchers, research groups, and larger consortia, and therefore the ability to work with others is necessary. We offer an international research environment where you have the opportunity to contribute to high-quality research at an international level.
Good level of spoken and written English will be required.
