Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) conducts research and education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular level to the society level. The clinical research and education is conducted in collaboration with other research groups from the Karolinska Institutet, with other universities as well as the Stockholm County Council.

Disorders of the brain are among the biggest challenges facing public and personal health today. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common progressive neurodegenerative disorder diagnosed by the presence of rest tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia. In addition to the motor symptoms, the patients suffer from several non-motor symptoms among which cognitive decline affects up to 80% of the patients. Better understanding of the pathophysiology underlying PD and its treatments is a large unmet medical need. For this purpose, the Department of Translational Neuropharmacology uses cellular and animal models, patient samples from blood, spinal fluid and brain. A focus is on finding new biomarkers and targets for the treatment of PD. The Department of Translational Neuropharmacology has a number of biochemical, histological, pharmacological and molecular methods.
