You will join the dynamic and cooperative groups of Prof. Maja Jagodic and Prof. Fredrik Piehl at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, which offers the opportunity to contribute to interactive research driven by pertinent clinical questions, combining mechanistic understanding of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) with strong clinical expertise. The teams are part of the Karolinska Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (KNIMS) network which gathers around 60 researchers working on different aspects of MS pathogenesis, including genetics, epidemiology, immunology and epigenetics, with excellent clinical cohorts and experimental models. You will therefore benefit from a highly collaborative and engaged research environment committed to exploring innovative translational ideas in precision medicine where you will have a possibility to conduct research at the top international level in the field.
We strive to unveil molecular mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in MS using both large scale omics approaches in unique clinical samples in combination with functional experiments. MS is a leading cause of progressive disability in young adults and a highly heterogeneous disease with respect to its clinical presentation and treatment response. The successful candidate will implement bioinformatics pipelines to analyze data from e.g. next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, interrogating multiple omics layers using epigenetic and transcriptomic analysis from bulk tissue and single cells. The work will include design of the analysis, data processing, quality control, statistical analysis, data visualization, interpretation and presentation in the form of scientific publications, grant applications and at meetings and conferences. The candidate is expected to interact with many collaborators at KI and externally and to contribute to the efficient functioning of the unit.
We are looking for a candidate who shares our passion for translational research, is ready to join our very collaborative team and is highly motivated to perform computational work. The applicant must hold a Masters degree in a relevant field.

The candidates should also have good communication skills and documented ability to collaborate professionally. Experience with NGS-based omics analysis (e.g. RNA, methylome, open chromatin analysis in bulk or single cell data) in the context of a complex human disease will be considered as an extra merit.
