Signal Transduction Laboratory, Rolf Luft Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department ofMolecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet.
We are focused on studying the signalling crosstalk within the pancreatic islet and then more specifically at the beta-endothelial cell interface in vivo, and its impact on insulin secretion from beta cells as well as overall glucose metabolism. Our aim is to gain in depth understanding of the plasticity in beta-endothelial cell paracrine signalling under physiological and diabetic conditions, mainly by in vivo imaging of transplanted islets in the anterior chamber of mouse eye, in combination with further mechanistic studies.
The Rolf Luft Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology is now recruiting a Research Specialist who will work in close collaboration with the rest of the team mainly on obtaining mechanistic knowledge on the regulation of islet function in vivo. The successful applicant will join and enhance ongoing efforts in investigating the physiological activities of intra-islet VEGF-A/VEGFR2 pathway in vivo, and further examining its modifications under diabetic conditions as well as the metabolic implications in an obese animal model.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a PhD in biology/cell biology, the applicant must have documented research expertise in both islet biology and vascular biology after defending the doctoral dissertation. The applicant should have deep knowledge in islet and vascular endothelial cell physiology as well as pathology. He/she must be familiar with in vitro and in vivo techniques for investigating signal-transduction and functionality of islet and vascular cells.
