Our research unit is multi-professional with approximately 20 co-workers.

Your mission

The candidate is expected to perform leading collaborative research in the area of musculoskeletal health and to attract external funding to support these activities. Specifically, he or she is expected to lead a research group working on diagnosis, prevention, manual treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain, mainly spinal pain. Additionally, the candidate should strengthen the unit’s expertise in methods for prediction of manual treatment success, the use of frequently repeated measures for follow-up and the systematic reviews about musculoskeletal pain conditions. The announcement is for a senior researcher position.

Eligibility requirements

A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence and fulfills the requirements for “Docent” at Karolinska Institutet. Ongoing research is important.

The successful candidate should have strong competitive track record in musculoskeletal research including intervention studies and randomized clinical trials, preferably using quantitative methodology and statistics. The candidate must show experience in recruiting and retention of research participants and repeated measures in clinical trials. As we are using frequent measures to collect outcomes, knowledge of SMS Track is expected, as well as the analysis thereof. Particular focus will be on research collaboration and networks, and a clinical background in manual therapy must be demonstrated. In addition, the candidate should have a demonstrated history of scientific independence and leadership. Last author publications in international peer-reviewed journals are a merit.

Assessment criteria

Scientific expertise will be most important when assessing applicants. We are looking for an independent senior researcher who is at the forefront of research in the area of development and evaluation of musculoskeletal health interventions. The applicant must have a solid knowledge of evidence-based practice, musculoskeletal health, systematic development of interventions, and systematic reviews, as demonstrated through publications.

It is meritorious that the applicant has clinical experience of manual treatment as the job will require an understanding of common procedures and terminology.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
