Description of the subject area

Obstetrics and gynecology with a focus on cancer prevention includes diagnostics and treatment of these diseases, but also epidemiology, heredity, life style factors and quality of life.

Your mission

The position is located at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, Karolinska Institutet, 50 % of full time, and at the hereditary unit, Theme Cancer, Karolinska University Hospital, Solna, 50 % of full time.

The clinical unit is a highly specialized unit for cancer prevention and hereditary cancer.

The position includes clinical research focusing on prevention and treatment of hereditary cancer and related areas, such as quality of life after treatment for gynecological cancer but also benign gynecology. The position aims to strengthen and further develop the clinical research at Karolinska Institutet and the Karolinska University Hospital.

Since the position aims at bridging between and strengthening both clinical care and research in hereditary cancer, the successful applicant is expected to take active part in further development of clinical research infrastructures within the field, nationally as well as internationally.

The position includes involvement in and responsibility for education on basic and advanced levels in midwifery, medicine, specialist and continuing education in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as supervision of doctoral students.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated good pedagogical expertise; excellent scientific expertise and clinical expertise. (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The appointee is expected to perform internationally competitive research in the field as documented by the number and quality of publications in international peer-reviewed journals during the last seven years. The applicant must demonstrate external funding acquired as main and co-applicant during the last five years, and supervision of doctoral students as the main supervisor.

The position will be combined with a position as a specialist trained physician at Karolinska University Hospital. Therefore, the candidate must have a clinically active MD with specialist competence  in obstetrics and gynecology or corresponding competence, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden. Since the position includes clinical work, the successful applicant must demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

Assessment criteria

The position has a focus on research. The assessment will weigh qualifications as follows: scientific expertise (3), pedagogical expertise (2) , leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), and clinical expertise (2) .

For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure 3.2.2 are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

Since the position aims to strengthen translational research, experience from leadership and collaboration will be meritorius. It is of special merit to have documented knowledge of oncogenetics and show clinical and research expertise within cancer prevention and quality of life after cancer treatment.

Since the intended employment is about developing the research area and future leadership, personal qualifications such as the ability to cooperate as well as international experience and networks are highly meriting.

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
