Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

Description of the subject area

Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related states and events in populations, and the announced position has a focus on the description and determinants of health and disease in the elderly population, as well as analyses of the demographic development and changes in the disease panorama in the older part of the population, in order to increase the understanding of how morbidity and care needs changes over time in relation to age, sex, and sociodemographic factors. With an increasingly aging population throughout large parts of the world it is important to conduct epidemiologic research that seeks to identify risk factors for disease and impairment as well as factors of importance for staying healthy among the elderly, and, through epidemiologic and demographic methods, increase the understanding of the influence of the population structure on health care and nursing in a societal perspective.

Your mission

The employment has a focus on research. We are looking for a Senior Lecturer with a strong commitment to develop the research within the subject area and combine methodologies from both epidemiology and demography, and in an innovative way utilize our unique resources in the form of national and Nordic population- and health data registers, quality registers, and detailed administrative data. Supervision of doctoral students and teaching at the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs is expected, e.g. at courses in epidemiology within the Master’s Programme in Public Health Sciences, including course leadership, and within the Doctoral Programme in Epidemiology, as well as within the interdisciplinary educational program at the doctoral education level led by IMM, where both epidemiology and demography are essential parts. As Senior Lecturer you are also expected to contribute to the academic leadership and be engaged in the development of the department.
