The Department of Clinical Science and Education Södersjukhuset (KI SÖS), pursues undergraduate education, doctoral education and internationally recognized research focusing on common diseases and injuries. The department has approximately 100 PhD students. In the pediatric unit there are 5 research groups where several of them are dedicated to allergy research, there is one Professor responsible for research, one Senior Lecturer responsible for education in the medical program and one professor in Caring Sciences. Considering the great interest in research education and active research in allergy, KI SÖS will now strengthen the teaching staff with an additional Senior Lecturer.

Subject area

Allergy is a broad discipline where food allergy is an important aspect, as severe allergic reactions caused by food is increasing in today´s society. This has led to the need to develop new strategies for prevention and treatment of food allergies. KI SÖS has ongoing cutting-edge research both clinical and experimental within the subject area.

Your mission

The Senior Lecturer will be responsible for and further develop the PhD program and do research within the area of allergy within the department as well as in collaboration with other departments within KI. The clinical part will be to develop diagnostic methods and give scientific support to the excellence center for food allergy where the senior lecturer will contribute with scientific evidence in the food allergy knowledge center. The senior lecturer will also collaborate with the management of the unit and contribute with scientific expertise in seeking evidence for specific questions. The senior lecturer will participate in the units R&D group and be a support in matters concerning EPM applications. The Senior Lecturer should take part in the pedagogic development at KI SÖS as well as collaborating with other departments where KI SÖS cannot contribute to achieving the learning goals.

The position is a combined position with 30% duties at the excellence center for food allergy at Sachsska Children's Hospital and 70% education and research at KI SÖS.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical expertise; good scientific expertise and clinical expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching (or have equivalent competence) in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher.

Documented experience of being director, or equivalent in doctoral studies.

The position will be combined with a position as medical laboratory scientist at the Sachsska Children's Hospital (the healthcare facility for medical training and research). Documented experience of certified work with diagnostic methods is mandatory, hence, the applicant should be a certified medical laboratory scientist.

Since the position includes clinical work, the successful applicant must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

Assement criteria

The senor lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (3), leadership, and development and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical expertise (1).
