Are you passionate about contributing to cutting-edge science in the exciting field of 3D Genome Biology and Structural Genomic Variation?

Are you an experienced researcher with an excellent track-record in the field of 3D genome biology and genome fragility? Do you have experience with working together with computational experts and people at diverse levels of their scientific career? Are you reliable, self-organized, and willing to take on vital responsibilities to help keep our groups running? Do you enjoy writing scientific publications and being involved in all aspects of finalizing research manuscripts?

The Bienko-Crosetto Lab (https://bienkocrosettolabs.org/) is looking for a motivated, talented, and independent Research Specialist to expand our joint research group at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at Karolinska Institutet and SciLifeLab. You will be part of a dynamic and international research environment (https://scilifelab.se/) where you will have the opportunity to collaborate and network with scientists from very diverse fields and backgrounds. Moreover, as the lab will soon expand at the Human Technopole in Milan, you will have the opportunity to be involved in joint research projects and exchange visits with the lab in Milan.

Your mission

As a Research Specialist, you will be overseeing NGS-based research projects that seek to understand how chromatin is spatially organized in the nucleus and how genome fragility underlies structural genomic variation.

Our ultimate mission is to understand how the complex higher-order structure of chromatin in mammalian cells is established during the cell cycle, how it is dynamically reshaped during cell differentiation, and how it is rewired during carcinogenesis.

Moreover, you will assist the two Principal Investigators with grant applications and scientific publications, lead our weekly briefings, and become increasingly responsible for day-to-day administrative tasks and supervision of the team when our second lab opens in Milan.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, Ph.D., or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise after defending their doctoral dissertation. The successful candidate must have:

  • A Ph.D. in biomedical genomics, and preferentially 3D genomics.
  • Postdoctoral research experience from a research group other than where the Ph.D. education was conducted.
  • Documented research experience in the field of 3D genome organization and genome fragility.
  • Demonstrated ability to write scientific articles and publish them in high-level international scientific journals.
  • Documented experience with drafting grant applications.
  • Experience in co-supervising students at the doctoral level.
  • Solid hands-on competence in NGS-based methods including Hi-C, (s)BLISS, RNAseq, ChIP-seq and standard molecular biology approaches.
  • A good knowledge of the field of 3D genomics and of the methods developed in our laboratory during the past years, including GPSeq, (sc)CUTseq, and (s)BLISS.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate in English (written and oral), ideally also a basic understanding of written Swedish to be able to scout for grant opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues in diverse fields, at diverse levels of their scientific careers.
  • An excellent eye for detail, high level of independence, and a reliable personality.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject areas, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities.

What do we offer?
