The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of about 65 employees. The division conducts experimental and translational research related primarily to Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, but also more general molecular mechanisms with biomedical relevance are studied. The division is mainly located in BioClinicum, KI Campus Solna, and partially in Neo, KI Campus Flemingsberg.
The research group
Our research group uses several advanced biochemical and cell biological approaches for understanding the pathology of Alzheimer disease (AD) and to find biomarkers for early diagnosis of the disease. We have discovered a novel biomarker for AD that we are evaluating in patient groups from different countries. We collaborate with several research groups and also with actors in health care, enabling testing of our findings in a clinical setting. Moreover, we study pathogenic mechanisms related to AD in neurons. To this end, we use a new generation of so called super-resolution microscopes.
We work in an inspiring and interactive research environment in BioClinicum, KI-Campus Solna, and have ongoing national and international research collaborations.
The tasks are various and involve to a large extent practical laboratory work. The responsibilities include handling of clinical samples and analysis of these by affinity assays in multi-well format. Other responsibilities include culturing of primary neurons, fluorescence labeling and microscopy. Data analyses and compilation of results are other important tasks.
We are looking for a person with a dedicated interest in life sciences, especially in neurodegenerative diseases. You should have at least three years of higher education in for instance biomedical analysis, cell biology, chemistry, molecular biology or similar. It is meritorious if you have several years of experience from laboratory work, preferably with focus on quantitative analysis or cell culturing. We value a strong collaborative attitude, good organizing skills, good social skills and good skills in writing and communication. Good skills in writing and speaking English is required, since the working language is English, but good skills in Swedish is an advantage.
We attach great importance to personal suitability.
