The activities at the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) include education and research in systems, leadership and management in health care, lifelong learning for healthcare professionals, ethics and policy issues related to health care and research, health care information systems, social innovation and suicide prevention. We run three master's programmes and several executive and professional education courses. We collaborate with Region Stockholm, various authorities and companies, as well as with patient organizations.

Your mission

As assistant senior lecturer, you will conduct research and education in health informatics, specifically in Clinical Informatics or Consumer Health Informatics. Own research should be related to e.g. data analysis and visualization, data integration and interoperability, or design and evaluation. The work mainly consists of tasks such as:

• To participate in health informatics education at master's and doctoral level, including course responsibility

• To apply for research funding

• To write scientific publications and inform about research and research results

• To initiate and pursue national and international collaborations in the subject area

Description of the subject area 

Health informatics is an interdisciplinary field in the intersection of information science, computer science, and health care. This field deals with the methods required to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of information in health and biomedicine.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Assistant Senior Lecturer the applicant must have demonstrated scientific expertise and completed a doctoral degree in a subject area relevant for the duties. In addition to the doctoral thesis the applicant must have published  at least three scientific peer reviewed publications. The applicant must partially meet the requirements for excellent teaching experience and expertise and have shown good pedagogical independence. The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.


Assessment criteria

  • Extensive pedagogical experience of various forms of teaching at first and second cycle levels
  • Experience of individual supervision of degree projects at first and second cycle levels
  • Independent responsibility for planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching and examination at first and second cycle levels – to a significant extent and with documented high quality.
  • Pedagogical management assignments, for example as course director at first and second cycle level.
  • Completed, nationally and internationally presented pedagogical development work resulting in improved study programs and/or courses.

 

In the assessment of the applicants, particular emphasis is put on pedagogical and scientific skills. In addition, excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Swedish are required.

Pedagogical skills

Conducted research in health informatics, specifically in one of the following sub-areas: Clinical informatics, Consumer health informatics Scientific publications of high quality in established international scientific journals in health informatics as first and/or senior author. 

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
