Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Karolinska Institutet are pleased to announce the recruitments of two two-year postdoctoral positions in research on disabling occupational injuries due to accidents or other harmful effects at work. One position will be in the field of prevention and the other in rehabilitation. The total number of serious occupational injuries increased slightly between 2018 and 2019, at present time there is insufficient research in the field of prevention and rehabilitation. Here is a unique opportunity to work independently with important issues in occupational injuries.

Karolinska Institutet offers an engaging research environment where you get the opportunity to
contribute to high-quality research.

Your role

We are looking for two postdocs who will work in one or more research projects in disabling
occupational injuries (accident, illness or disability/discomfort caused by the work). The positions are advertised and appointed centrally, which means that the successful candidate together with Karolinska Institutet will find a suitable department and research group to work with. The work will be planned together with a research group leader. The first two years are fully funded, with a possible extension within consultation with research group leaders and the department.

The employments have been made possible through a donation from the insurance company AFA's Trygghetsstiftelse. It is possible to take part in the collection of subsets from Afa Sickness Insurance, Afa Work Injury Insurance and Afa Life Insurance's joint claims database for the research. The claims database is unique and contains about 15 million cases, among other things, such as which occupational groups, sectors, tasks and activities are associated with various injuries and illnesses.

Selection of candidates will be performed by a panel of experts who will first evaluate the written
application and then conduct interviews with a handful of top-ranked applicants. In their evaluation, the panel will place significant emphasis on the CV, proposed project plan and personal suitability.

Your profile

Those eligible to be employed as a postdoctoral fellow, are those who has completed a doctoral degree within the last three years, or who has equivalent scientific competence in the field of medical and biomedical sciences, for example in occupational medicine, public health, psychology, sociology, medicine, care science, ergonomics, behavioural science, physiotherapy or epidemiology, epidemiology, or exposure assessment, however other sciences may also be taken into consideration. Applicants who have not attained a doctoral degree at the end of the application period can apply provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before (intended) date of employment. This must be supported in evidence by the applicant's main supervisor, director of studies or equivalent.

Documented experience in work environment research or methodologies of relevance to the call is a strong merit for the position. Experience with nationwide Swedish registers or research in the field of occupational injuries is also meritorious.
