The successful candidate will work in the research group headed by Prof Robert Harris that is a part of the Karolinska Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (KNIMS) center which gathers around 40 researchers working on different aspects of the pathogenesis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and other neurodegenerative diseases. The Applied Immunology & Immunotherapy group is physically located at the Centre for Molecular Medicine, a translational medical centre, and the research focus is developing innovative ways to treat chronic neurodegenerative diseases.
We are looking for a research specialist with excellent knowledge of experimental neurodegenerative models. Experience of a broad range of immunological techniques and of microglial biology will be applied in a project aiming to develop a microglial depletion and repopulation paradigm using donor cells and amniotic epithelial cells. The work will include experimental design, data processing, quality control, statistical analyses, data interpretation and presentation of findings in the form of scientific publications, grant applications and at meetings and conferences. The individual is expected to lead research projects conducted by other PhD students, as well as facilitating collaborations outside of the lab. To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.
We are looking for a person with a PhD in immunology with at least 5 years working experience as a postdoc. You shall have documented experience with mouse models for neurodegenerative diseases as well as knowledge in basic lab techniques such as PCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy. Substantial expertise in immunological assays as well as multicolor flow cytometry is a requirement together with excellent analytical and quantitative skills. You must also have documented research experience of complex data analysis, a high level of demonstrable communication skills in both Swedish and English and the ability to supervise PhD students.
