The Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) opens a position as senior lecturer in Medical Management.

The field of Medical Management has been established at the Medical Management Center (MMC), LIME, KI, for 20 years. During this period, the center received more than SEK 200 million in competitive grants and over 50 people obtained a doctorate degree.

Description of the subject area

The field of Medical management is of particular importance for both research and education at KI and for the development of healthcare. The research and education in this area has a strong focus on leadership in healthcare as well as the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative care models. A main focus is how medical knowledge, individual and organizational competence as well as material and financial resources can best be coordinated to improve healthcare. Examples of specific research areas are new forms of care, such as digital care, standardized care processes, multi-professional and person-centered care for patients with acute or chronic conditions.

Your mission

The employment is focused on research. You are expected to initiate, conduct and lead research in the field of Medical management and to promote the development of a productive research environment at the department and the university.

You will collaborate with care providers, patient representatives, educational and research institutions, various authorities and the business sector, for the establishment, implementation and/or systematic evaluation of innovation and improvement work, new work processes and organizational models in healthcare.

You are also expected to supervise doctoral students and postdocs and to participate in teaching activites at the basic- and advanced level as well as in the Executive and Professional Education within the field Medical management. In your role, you should contribute to strengthening the field of Medical management in undergraduate education at KI.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated good pedagogical expertise; excellent scientific expertise; management, development and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

Research expertise must be proven through publications of good quality in international journals in the field of Medical management and of importance for practice and the field of research of Medical Management.

To be eligible, the applicant must be established as an independent researcher in the field of Medical management.

Assessment criteria 

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific expertise (3), pedagogical expertise (2) and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).

For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure 3.2.1 are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

It is of highest importance that documented administrative and leadership experience and cooperative ability should be demonstrated.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Studies in the field include implementation, management and effects of innovative forms of care on outcomes, patient and staff expirience. As these topics are extremely complex, knowledge in using a multi-method approach with both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, is particularly meritorious.

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Language skills in a Scandinavian language is a merit. 

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
