At the Department of Neurobiology, Caring Sciences and Society (NVS), we conduct world-leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. The research ranges from basic science at the molecular and cellular level to clinical studies and research at the societal level. At NVS, approximately one third of KI's students complete their education at undergraduate and advanced level. We are announcing a new professorship in Health Economics and are looking for you who want to be part of and contribute to our department.
At the Division of Neurogeriatrics we conduct internationally leading translational research on various neurodegenerative diseases and also Health Economic aspects of these diseases with the following sub-areas: (a) costs for neurodegenerative diseases in a global perspective and methods for measuring resources estimate unit costs, in particular for informal care interventions; b) Health Economic modeling of neurodegenerative diseases and the cost-effectiveness of new drugs and medical technology for diagnosis and treatment, c) follow-up of results and outcomes with new diagnostics and treatments through registers and observational studies (so-called 'real world evidence').
The employment is placed at the Division of Neurogeriatrics, which consists of a total of about 65 employees. The scientific focus at the division is translational preclinical research, primarily on Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, vascular dementia and spinal cord injuries. The research has a strong focus on integrating basic neuroscience research with translational, clinical and health economics research. We conduct education at undergraduate and advanced level in biomedicine and also at doctoral education level. Laboratories and offices are located in BioClinicum, KI Campus Solna and in Neo, KI Campus Flemingsberg.
We are looking for a researcher who has a strong commitment to initiate, lead and develop Health Economics research with focus on neurodegenerative at the Division of Neurogeriatrics, both conceptually and methodologically.

To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on research the applicant must have demonstrated good pedagogical expertise and excellent scientific expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).
The applicant must have a relevant academic degree such as a degree in Economics, Medicine, Public Health or Biostatistics. Extensive international publication is a requirement for the position, as well as experience of initiating and leading international collaborations. The applicant must have experience in health economics research.
The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) and pedagogical expertise (2).

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
