Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Surgery is the country's leader in pediatric cancer research, with a broad research that includes everything from laboratory and clinical studies to epidemiology and nursing science. The department's goal is to further improve survival in childhood cancer and the quality of life for affected children and families. The Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Surgery is a well-functioning, growing and valued department.

About the research group

The principal investigator Dr Anna Nilsson is clinically active as a pediatric oncologist as are several other of her group members. She conducts research aimed at solving clinical problems related to infections and immunosuppression in children with cancer, in order to contribute to increased survival in childhood cancer. The group has established collaborations within its own department as well as with other groups at Bioclinicum, Karolinska Hospital, and other national and international research institutes. More specifically, on a daily basis, we handle patient samples and measure, among other things, antibody responses and T-cell responses to vaccine antigens through immunobased methods such as ELISPOT, ELISA and Flow Cytometry.

Your mission

You are applying for a position as a post doc in our research group for translational childhood cancer research in pediatric infection / immunology. You will study the adaptive immune system in children with cancer and how it is affected by chemotherapy linked to the risk of life-threatening infections. You will be responsible for large parts of the laboratory work, which means actively working with planning, implementation, data analysis and authoring, as well as supervision of students and doctoral students.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence in the field of immunology, cell biology or pediatrics. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

You should be genuinely interested and motivated to work with translational research in childhood cancer. We expect you to contribute actively and constructively to the development of our projects and that you have great pedagogical and collaborative ability. You are expected to be able to work both team-based as well as on your own.

We are seeking a motivated employee with documented knowledge / publications in B- and / or T-cell immunology. You are expected to have extensive experience of standard techniques such as cell culture management, immunophenotyping and functional studies (flow cytometry, tetramer staining, Elispot / Fluorospot and other immunoassays) as well as experience working with primary samples (blood, saliva). Experience from human studies with a pediatric profile is meriting. Good knowledge of Swedish and English is advantegous.
