The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of about 65 employees. The division conducts experimental and translational research related primarily to Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, but also more general molecular mechanisms with biomedical relevance are studied. The division is mainly located in BioClinicum, KI Campus Solna, and partially in Neo, KI Campus Flemingsberg.
At the division of Neurogeriatrics we investigate neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s Disease from different perspectives, emphasizing the integration of basic neuroscience research with clinical, health economics and outcomes research. The Health Economic Research Group develops and applies tools and methods to estimate the value of medical innovations, including e.g. new diagnostic tests, prevention strategies, digital solutions and disease-modifying pharmaceuticals. Our research helps determine how these innovations are best used to improve health and provide value for patients, caregivers and society as a whole. We are a multi-disciplinary team that collaborates extensively with research groups nationally, internationally as well as within Karolinska Institutet.
You will be involved in all aspects of research conducted in the Health Economics group including modelling studies, retrospective database analyses and prospective observational studies. You will also have the opportunity to participate in leading national and international research consortia such as ADDITION (JPND) and PREDEM (Vinnova). Supervision of doctoral student(s) is an integral part of the work.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics or a closely related field. Strong experience with registry-based research and statistical methods for observational data analysis also is required. Data management and analysis using e.g. STATA, SAS or R, and experience with prediction modeling is meritorious. Written and spoken fluency in English is essential. The work requires close collaboration with others, which is why flexibility and good communication skills are of great importance. A high degree of accuracy and independence is also important for the position.
