At the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS), world-leading research is conducted in aging, dementia, epidemiology and health care, where the division for Family Medicine and Primary Care is one of seven divisions. At the division, teaching is conducted at undergraduate and graduate levels, mainly within the study programme in medicine and we are responsible for a number of course elements that in total correspond to about 15 of the programme’s 220 weeks. Our role in the new 6-year programme is expected to expand.

We continuously run a clinical research school, as well as independent courses and contract education. The doctoral education currently comprises about 30 doctoral students.

Your mission

This position is part of a central strategic initiative to improve the conditions for a strong, close and mutually enriching integration of education and research at different levels. The appointee is expected to take responsibility for leading the development of educational activities in Family Medicine and Primary Care to ensure a research integrated education of high quality.

We are looking for two physicians who are a specialists in family medicine with experience in teaching and development of education at university level, who conduct high-quality research and are internationally recognized in the research area.

The positions are focused on education and research. The main tasks consist of teaching related to family medicine and general practice, supervision of doctoral students and research. The education primarily concerns the study programme in medicine. Research supervision is mainly in the area of ​​clinical research, and the research should be conducted in areas that are relevant and relates to research areas performed at the division of family medicine and primary care. The duties will be designed and adapted based on the applicants’ competences and interests and in accordance with the needs of the division and may change over time.

The position may be combined with clinical duty as specialist in family medicine in Region Stockholm area where the holder is expected to participate in the development of the university health care with commitment in clinical teaching, research, development and innovation.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Senior Lecturer, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the person must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills.

The applicant must have very good skills in pedagogy and extensive teaching experience and be an established researcher in the research area. Since the teaching is primarily conducted in Swedish, the applicant must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

The applicant must also be a registered physician and specialist in family medicine/general practice (or equivalent for applicants outside Sweden).

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.

Assessment criteria

The positions have a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (3) and leadership, and development and collaboration expertise (2).

Research expertise refers to independence in planning, conducting and leading research as well as communicating research with the surrounding community. Educational expertise refers to independence in planning, implementing and leading teaching with both breadth and depth, as well as a reflective approach to teaching and learning and experience in pedagogical and educational developmental work. Furthermore, experience in management and development assignments, as well as formal leadership training, is a merit.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
