The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe and has a special focus on deepening knowledge of the causes of various diseases. Description of the subject area

Since 2007, the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics has been responsible for scientific development (VetU) within the medical programme at Karolinska Institutet, including the courses degree project in medicine and medical scientific methodology. As responsible department for the degree project in the medical program, we are responsible annually for 300 students who carry out projects in a wide range of clinical and preclinical subjects.

Your mission

We are recruiting up to two new faculty to lead the educational activities at within the medical program, especially within the courses degree project in medicine and medical scientific methodology. The duties will be performed in collaboration with administrators and teachers at MEB as well as at other departments at KI. The duties include planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching at first and second cycle level. Duties may include being course director, which also includes taking on the major challenges that exist in continuously meeting future requirements for pedagogical activities within the medical programme at KI. We expect the successful applicants to continue researching within their established research area but also be open to new research opportunities in collaboration with colleagues at the department and university.

Depending on the professional background, the employment may be combined with clinical duties.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical expertise; broad and good scientific expertise; management, development and collaborative skills (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.

Assessment criteria

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific expertise (2), pedagogical expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (3).

For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure 3.2.2 are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant's pedagogical qualifications, assessed according to the assessment criteria in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure 3.2.2.2, have been obtained from the medical programme.

It is meritorious that the applicant has a broad and good scientific competence.

It is meritorious that the applicant has experience as a course director, coordinator and/or examiner for degree projects in medicine.

It is meritorious that the applicant has a medical degree.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
