Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The mission at the Unit of Biochemical Toxicology is to perform top quality research to understand the connection between various exposures and diseases. We work with different cellular models, development of adverse outcome pathways as well as with risk assessment. We are now recruiting a postdoctor who will work with Associate Professor Hanna Karlsson in a collaborative project related to toxicity of nanoparticles.

Your mission

The project is part of an EU project (called nPETS) that focuses on understanding health effects of nanoparticles from the transport sector. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctor with interest and experience in experimental toxicology. The postdoctor will collaborate with researchers involved in collecting (nano)particles from different environments (generated in the lab or collected at different urban sites) and will be responsible for toxicity testing. Thus, the postdoctor will extract the (nano)particles from the filters, expose cultured cells (lung cells, macrophages), and investigate toxicity with a focus on genotoxicity and inflammation. Exposures will take place using submerged cultures, and by collaborating with researchers at Stockholm University also air-liquid interface exposures will be performed.

Your profile

The applicant is expected to be an enthusiastic candidate with a strong knowledge within cell biology and toxicology. Experience in cell culturing and toxicity assessment is required. Previous work with (nano)particles and toxicity testing with a focus on genotoxicity and/or inflammation including techniques such as comet assay, ELISA/multiplexing, flow cytometry, microscopy and RT-PCR is preferable and experience in co-culture work and use of air-liquid interface exposures can be meritorious. The candidate must be able to work within a team with scientists from different disciplines and fluency in English is a requirement.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
