The department of clinical sciences, Danderyd hospital (KI-DS) was established in its current form 1993. Annually, about 400 students undergo their basic medical training at KI DS, including the units of surgery and urology, anesthesiology and intensive care, radiology, internal medicine, cardiology and clinical physiology, clinical chemistry, obstetrics and gynecology as well as orthopedic surgery. The department conducts clinical research in several different areas with a focus on diseases frequently treated at the hospital. The department has about 90 registered PhD students and annually about 10 defend their dissertations for a doctoral degree in medicine. Approximately 200-250 articles are published annually in international peer-review journals. The department annually provides several courses for specialist competence in various subjects as well as further education courses for specialists and postgraduate courses.

Danderyd hospital is one of the largest hospitals for acute care in Sweden with extensive educational activities. Annually, we provide clinic-based training for about 2000 students in the healthcare area, this includes among others students training to become physicians, nurses, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, dieticians and biomedical analysts.

Your mission

The employment has a focus on education and research.

The department now wants to recruit a new professor who will lead and continue to develop research and having overall responsibility for the education in medical pedagogy and clinical educational sciences at Danderyd hospital. The position is intended to be divided as 70% employment at Karolinska Institutet as a professor, and 30% as a specialist physician at Danderyd hospital. The position also includes leading the development of the clinical training arena at the hospital, with the main focus on the medical doctor program to ensure the clinic-based training on the credential-based 6-year medical doctor program.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills and clinical expertise. The position will be combined with a position as a specialist trained physician at Danderyd hospital and therefore the candidate must have an MD with specialist competence in internal medicine, cardiology, anesthesia and intensive care, surgery, urology or orthopedics or corresponding competence, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.

Since the employment requires collaboration within Karolinska Institutet and Danderyd hospital as well as with other hospitals in the county, the holder must have documented experience of collaboration between different units and of leading research activities.

Since the position includes patient contact the applicant must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish corresponding to the C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching or have equivalent competence in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher.

Bases of assessment

The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), and clinical expertise (2).

It is particularly meritorious with experience in leading, coordinating and developing pedagogic and educational activities in a clinical environment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
