The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) is divided into five divisions that conduct research and education in neuroscience, from the molecular level to the societal level. The work at the department is highly integrated with the clinical activities at Karolinska University Hospital, St. Erik's Eye Hospital and the Stockholm Region.
The Psychology division is very active in research and teaching. The division is responsible for the psychology program and has large assignments teaching at e.g. the physician and the physiotherapy program. Now we want to strengthen our research and education in the somatic area in general and especially on major public diseases such as e.g. cardiology, gastroenterology or pain. The unit of medical psychology at Karolinska University Hospital and the division of psychology at KI are very research-active units and work closely together on clinical issues.
The position as professor in clinical psychology with a focus on somatic care at KI is combined with a position as a psychologist at Medical Psychology, Theme Women's Health and Health Professions, Karolinska University Hospital. This means a responsibility for research and education at the division of psychology at KI and clinical work in medical psychology unit at the hospital. The assignment includes actively stimulating the ongoing research in the somatic field. Furthermore, the professor is responsible for elements in psychologist and doctoral programs. An important part of the work will be to develop an academic leadership in somatic care.
The position is planned to be distributed approximately 70% at KI and 30% at Karolinska University Hospital.
To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development, collaborative skills and clinical expertise (see the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).
The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching (or have equivalent competence) in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher.
The applicant must have experience of clinical work and supervision at various levels.
The applicant must have published international research in the field and have documented experience of having received research grants.
The employment will be combined with a position as a psychologist at the unit medical psychologist at Karolinska University Hospital and therefore the applicant must have a license for psychologists as well as an explicit competence in somatic care.
Since the position includes clinical work, the successful applicant must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).
The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical expertise (2).
As the employment entails an overall responsibility for research in somatic care at KI and a clinical employment at the hospital, documented international experience of treatment research in one of the major public diseases cardiology, gastroenterology or pain is strongly meritorious. Experience of various forms of teaching and course responsibility within the subject of psychology on university level are meritorious.
After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
